As Dune Savers, we are committed to preserving and protecting the fragile ecosystems of our coastal dunes. Through community-driven efforts, we focus on the cleanup and removal of invasive and non-native vegetation to restore natural habitats and strengthen our region’s ecological resilience. Our mission is rooted in stewardship, sustainability, and a deep respect for the natural landscapes that shape our coastal identity.
Our team is made up of passionate Volunteers who are committed to environmental protection. Many of our leaders are Florida Master Gardeners, trained in advanced plant Identification, and members of the Florida Native Plant society
Our group removes invasive / non Native plants from the dunes; these include Mother-of-Millions, Fountain grass, Cardboard palm, Brazilian pepper tree, Carrotwood tree, asparagus fern and lantana camara. (Pictures in the Gallery. ).
We partner with the local city governments. All work is done in conjunction with all state and local ordnances, permission of property owners, and when needed we have required permits.
It’s recommended that everyone wear closed-toe shoes (lots of cactus in the dunes), gloves, sun protection, and bring a refillable water bottle. If anyone has
an allergy to poison ivy, they may want to wear long pants. We haven’t seen poison ivy at most locations, but Brazilian pepper tree is in the same family as poison
ivy. There is poison ivy at the County Beach.
This is a rewarding endeavor, it is educational, and gives everyone a sense of helping the environment and our community. We have a super group of volunteers
that are fun to work with who help with identifying the plants. It will help you learn about both our native Florida plants, and invasive plants
